PROclean Gasolines
Since gasoline conforms to a common industry fuel specification, it often is considered a commodity.  The thing that differentiates one brand of gasoline from another is the additive package.

PROclean gasolines are formulated to be some of the highest quality fuels in the marketplace.  This is done using state of the art additives at dosages that far exceed the minimum standard established by the Environmental Protection Agency.  PROclean Gasolines meet or exceed the fuel injector and intake valve cleanliness requirements of all of the major vehicle manufacturers and will provide the following consumer benefits:

  • Help reduce hesitation
  • Help provide smooth acceleration
  • Help make the vehicle more responsive
  • Help restore and maximize performance

EthylEthyl Corporation (soon to be Afton Chemical) supplies ConocoPhillips with  gasoline performance additives (GPA).  These additives are commonly called detergents, but can contain other components, thus the term package.  The Ethyl additive package prepared for ConocoPhillips fuel is comprised of detergent, corrosion inhibitor, and demulsifier.

Detergents are compounds that remove varnish and deposits from fuel injectors, intake valves, and in older vehicles, carburetors.  These deposits can rob performance and fuel economy and result in higher emissions.  They can also contribute to hard starts, hesitation, and rough idle.

Corrosion inhibitors coat and protect metal components in the fueling system.  Demulsifiers are simply there to help the gasoline shed water, in the event of significant water exposure.

Intake Valves

Intake ValveAlmost all gasoline vehicles on the road today are port fuel injected.   That means that an injector sprays a mist of fuel on the intake valve before each engine cycle.  The valve vaporizes the fuel and then opens, allowing the well-mixed air and fuel into the cylinder.

Deposits that form on intake valves from lesser quality gasolines can be problematic, especially when the engine is cold.   These deposits act like a sponge, soaking up fuel as it is sprayed onto the valve and creating lean spots on warm up.  The symptoms in vehicles are hard starting, rough idle, and hesitation.  As deposit levels continue to build, airflow efficiency into the cylinder is also impaired.

PROclean gasolines not only keep valves clean, but can also remove deposits left by other gasolines.

Port Fuel Injectors

Fuel InjectorFuel deposits can also form in fuel injectors.   With the complex design and close tolerances of these injectors, deposits are often not well tolerated.

On the injectors, deposits tend to form near the tip but can also appear on the barrel.   Problems can range from reduced flow (power/acceleration loss) to distorted fuel spray pattern, which can impede performance and fuel economy.  In extreme cases, sticking and injector failures have been documented.

PROclean gasolines, in the most rigorous industry tests, keep injectors flowing like new.
